Windham Chamber works with HGTV to Change the World

Changing the World in Willimantic

A film crew from the HGTV network visited Willimantic in Mid August to shoot a variety of spots for their “Change the World” series.  Every day, ordinary people are changing the world in extraordinary ways.  HGTV is recognizing these individuals, these “community crusaders” by picking one outstanding nominee per month and featuring them in a video that will air on HGTV and HGTV.com.  The nominee wins $5000 and another $5000 is donated to Rebuilding Together on behalf of the winner.

The September “Community Crusader” is Avery Doninger, an Eastern Student.  Film crews were here in Willimantic all last week filming Avery at different locations throughout the region.  In every shot there is a globe of the world that represents how just one person can make a difference.

The Chamber of Commerce worked with HGTV before the crew arrived to decide on locations to photograph that would represent all the different assets the region is known for. The idea behind the shoot was to photograph Avery in front of landmarks and natural resources that showed the ‘flavor’ of Windham Region.  We gave the crew locations and history of a wide variety of themes from farmlands to victorian homes, the frog legend, the river and the mill history as well as our airport diner and drive in movie theatre.
