Walk This Way During Walktober This Week!

This year’s Walktober is putting more feet on the streets, paths and trails than ever before. Kayaks are paddling new waterways, and bikes are peddling towards new discoveries. That is what Walktober is all about!

Walk (or peddle or paddle) This Way this coming week:

•             Explore unused roads, abandoned rail beds, and an historic Native People meeting site, Riding the Trail from Holland to Brimfield. (#82)

•             Power it up at the Shetucket River –Powering Norwich and Lifting Fish. Walk past a working hydroelectric station and see the fish lift in action, too. (#22)

•             Canterbury shows off agriculture on a 6th generation working farm on the Wibberly Farm Walk. (#106)

•             Kids will love the Youth Scavenger Hunt, which includes a nature project, in Thompson. (#107)

•             A climb to Wolf Rock offers spectacular views, and the Sawmill Brook Pond sports trees, birds and wildflowers at Between a Rock and a Marshy Place in Mansfield. (#111)

•             The 3rd Annual Norwich Grub Crawl serves up various and diverse ethnic samples to tickle your taste buds. (#112)

•             Putnam welcomes in The Great Pumpkin Festival (Event #32) loaded with vendors, food, live entertainment, the Blackstone Valley train ride, and more!

Complete details about all of The Last Green Valley’s Walktober experiences can be found in our free, full-color Walktober brochure. You can obtain one by emailing mail@tlgv.org or calling 860-774-3300 and requesting a copy.  The brochure is also available at all TLGV Information Racks and a PDF version is available for download online at www.thelastgreenvalley.org.  All updates, additions and cancellations will be posted on the Walktober 2014 page on TLGV’s website and Facebook page so please check them often.

The Last Green Valley is a National Heritage Corridor – the last stretch of dark night sky in the coastal sprawl between Boston and Washington, D.C.  A dynamic nonprofit organization, TLGV works for you in the National Heritage Corridor.  We help you to care for it, enjoy it, and pass it on!
