Volunteers Needed for Cleanups in The Last Green Valley

The Last Green Valley, Inc. (TLGV) is looking for volunteers to help with spring cleanups. Dozens of towns and nonprofit organizations throughout The Last Green Valley are sprucing up parks, roadways, rivers, and trails, and they need your help.  Check the TLGV website, www.tlgv.org, (click on “Cleanup Volunteers Needed”) for a list of volunteer opportunities and get involved!  TLGV is providing funds to support many of these cleanups in order to make The Last Green Valley an even more beautiful place to live, work, and play.

Join Trout Unlimited members on Saturday, March 29, from 9 am – noon, as they clean up the Trout Management Area along the Yantic River in Lebanon, CT.  Meet at the cul-de-sac on Barstow Road at 9 am.  Trout Unlimited will be scheduling additional cleanup days on the Natchaug River in May and the Moosup River in June.  For more information, contact Gene Cyr at gcyr@att.net.

Thompson Together is sponsoring its 12th annual town-wide road-side cleanup during the month of April.  Go for a walk; fill a bag with trash.  Calling all volunteers in a month-long effort to beautify our community!  Call Norma at 860-208-7196 to volunteer.

Join the “Trash Mob” to clean up public spaces and tourism destinations in Willimantic on April 4 at 5 pm.  Coordinated by the Windham Textile & History Museum and Visitor Center, volunteers meet on the even numbered Fridays (weather permitting) at 5 pm.  For more information, contact Bev York, the “Trash Mob Boss,” at 860 456-2178 or millmuseum@sbcglobal.net.

Join the Town of Bozrah for a Maples Farm Park Cleanup on Saturday, April 5, from 10 am – noon.  The Maples Grove section of the park was used as a dump by past property owners.  Help the town clean up debris!  A picnic lunch will be provided after the cleanup at Main’s Country Store.  For planning purposes, please register at bozrahfm@aol.com.  (Not suitable for small children or pets – some broken glass.)  Dress to work outside and bring work gloves if you have them.

The Thompson Recreation Department and 8th grade students from Thompson Middle School and St. Joseph School will be picking up trash, weeding gardens, and planting flowers on April 10 in order to beautify Riverside Park and Heritage Way Park on the French River.  Student volunteers will be treated to a pizza lunch for their efforts.  For more information, contact Renee Waldron, Director, Thompson Recreation Department, at 860-923-9440.

Thompson Together is sponsoring its annual French River cleanup on Saturday, April 12.  Registration, coffee, and doughnuts start at 7:30 am at the Valley Springs Sportsmen’s Club, 65 Valley Road, North Grosvenordale.  Trash bags, gloves, food and water will be provided.  Volunteers will be treated to lunch at Valley Springs.  Help make Thompson more beautiful!  Interested volunteers should contact Norma at 860-208-7196.

The Last Green Valley is a National Heritage Corridor – the last stretch of dark night sky in the coastal sprawl between Boston and Washington, D.C.  A dynamic nonprofit organization, TLGV is a steward of that special place, working to celebrate our heritage, conserve our natural resources and respect our working lands.
