Who’s Got Town Pride? We DO!
On Saturday, April 16 the Windham Chamber, along with other community members celebrated “Town Pride Town Wide”,a program where volunteers all coordinate to clean up Willimantic. Students from both Eastern and UCONN as well as many other volunteers helped to complete projects all over the town. The Chamber Windham being a partner in this event helped coordinate the projects and volunteers. It was also the day that landscaping was done to the Chamber’s own property. Projects around town included clean ups, landscaping, painting, etc.
This year The Windham Chamber has partnered with a couple of our members and did a major beautification project on the corner of Main St and Bridge St right next to their property. The Windham Chamber would like to specially thank Larry Walsh from Majestic Masonry who donated about $8,000 dollars of work and materials to make this project happen.Larry and his team built a raised stone wall on the perimeter of the triangle. We would also like to thank the following businesses for making this project a success: John Dittrich of The CT Country Store & Nursery who donated compost and top soil to fill the raised stone wall, Mickey Haddad, owner of Jonathans and the Bach Dor Café, who donated his front end loader and a driver to help move the stone for us, OL Willards for donating cement and EO Smith Wrestler, Shane Fafard, for helping prepare the site by digging out the very big and deeply rooted telephone poles and bushes so that work could begin and his continued help with building the stone wall.
To finish off this project on Saturday volunteers diligently planted flowers within the raised stone wall. If you have not had time to drive by and see this beautiful project we ask that you do when you have time. Again, we would like thank everyone who donated their time, money & supplies as this project would not have happened without all your generosity.
