National Recognition for the Shetucket River Water Trail

TLGV is pleased to announce a major expansion of nationally-acclaimed water trails in the region.  U.S. Secretary of the Interior Sally Jewell and National Park Service Director Jonathan B. Jarvis announced on June 3 that the 20-mile Shetucket River Water Trail has been designated as one of 3 new National Recreation Water Trails in the country.

The Last Green Valley Looks to the Future

TLGV hosted its Annual Membership Meeting on June 15 at Allen Hill Farm in Brooklyn, CT. 

More than 130 members enjoyed a gorgeous summer evening, starting in Allen Hill’s restored red barn, then touring the farm by hay wagon and visiting the site of a Native American fish weir on the Quinebaug River with Emeritus State Archaeologist Nick Bellantoni.

Earn $100 by Participating in a UConn Farms, Forest, and Open Space Focus Group 

TLGV members are invited to participate in a UConn focus group to help shape a research survey about the value of farms, forests, and open space.  Focus groups will be held this week – act now if you are interested.

Historic and Cultural Resources – 2016 Small Grants for Telling Stories That Matter 

TLGV is pleased to announce a small grant round for projects that preserve, interpret, promote, or market historical and cultural resources.  Approximately four grants of a maximum of $2,500 each will be awarded.  Funds will be dispersed on a reimbursement basis and must be matched 1:1 by cash or in-kind contributions. Municipal boards, commissions or committees, schools, and nonprofit 501(c) organizations are eligible to apply for projects located within, or that tell stories from, The Last Green Valley National Heritage Corridor.

History in The Last Green Valley – the Collaboration Continues with Huntington!

Huntington Homestead

The Huntington Homestead, a National Historic Landmark and birthplace of Samuel Huntington, is a remarkably well-preserved site. 

The presentation will cover “This Old House,” and also touch on the struggle/wish for greater support of W3R (Washington-Rochambeau Revolutionary Route), an historic wonder itself.

11th Annual Tastes of the Valley 

Sunday, September 18, 5 – 7 pm

The Mansion at Bald Hill

29 Plaine Hill Rd., Woodstock, CT 

Please join us for our 11th annual celebration, dinner and fundraiser for TLGV. Tastes of the Valley features the finest chefs in the region,

preparing foods raised and grown in The Last Green Valley.

Silent auctions and a raffle will be held throughout the evening highlighting the crafts, artistry, beauty and natural resources of The Last Green Valley.

Tickets (space limited): Members $65, Non-members $75. At the door $80 if space is available.  Includes wine and beer tasting.

Final registration deadline is September 9.
