The Last Green Valley, Inc. (TLGV) has seen over record-breaking attendance numbers so far for its 23rd Annual Walktober with over 1200 confirmed participants during the first seven days of the month-long program. Walktober, which features 106 FREE walks, hikes, paddles and bike rides as well as 36 events, highlights the special cultural, historic and natural resources throughout the 35 town bi-state National Heritage Corridor. With 44 experiences taking place, the upcoming holiday weekend is the perfect chance to enjoy a Walktober offering.
Early riser? Grab the family dog and meet in Charlton, MA at 6:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 12, for “Dawn of the Beavers.” Learn about and possibly see beavers and other lake inhabitants. Paddlers may prefer to “Ride the Shetucket: Scotland to Sprague, CT.” This paddle also takes place on Saturday and requires prior registration.
On Sunday, October 13, the entire family will be delighted by “Harvest The Last Green Valley: Views Over Fort Hill Farms.” This event will feature tethered hot-air balloon rides by RE/MAX for $10 and all the proceeds will support TLGV’s programs. Fort Hill Farms also features a fantastic corn maze, Pumpkinlandia, featuring 1,000 carved pumpkins, and much more.
City Historian Dale Plummer will present a stroll about “President Lincoln in Norwich” on Monday, October 14. Or if you prefer, you can “Meet the Bison” in Brooklyn, CT.
TLGV’s Walktober encompasses the entire month of October and events continue through November. New this year, The Last Green Valley, Inc. is selling a limited edition Walktober t-shirt. The Last Green Valley is a National Heritage Corridor – the last stretch of dark night sky in the coastal sprawl between Boston and Washington, D.C. A dynamic nonprofit organization, TLGV is a steward of that special place, working to celebrate our heritage, conserve our natural resources and respect our working lands.
