THIS EVENT HAS BEEN POSTPONED TO A LATER DATE- NEW DATE ANNOUNCED SOON
Have you ever been to a restaurant and not be able to make up your mind about what to order because everything on the menu looks delicious? The “Taste of the Quiet Corner” is an event for you! The “Taste” will be held on Friday, June 17, 2011 from 6:00 pm until 7:30 pm at the Willimantic Elks Lodge in Willimantic. This event is an opportunity for food lovers to taste the best items on the menus of multiple successful restaurants in the “Quiet Corner.”
“There are so many wonderful places to go for a meal in Northeast Connecticut and many are tucked away in beautifully quaint little communities. The towns may be small but the food , the flavors and the service are big,” said Diane Nadeau, Tourism Director for The Chamber of Commerce, Windham Region. “One of the most numerous referrals we give people who call or email us about what to do in the Quiet Corner is restaurants. People are looking for really good tasting food and high end service with a clean and comfortable atmosphere. A nice meal totally makes a vacation for them,” Nadeau said.
The Chamber of Commerce, Windham Region and the Willimantic Elks Lodge are co-hosting the event. It will be held at the newly renovated Elks Lodge. There will be a minimum of fifteen restaurants and catering services preparing hors d’ouevre’s, appetizers, salads, soups, entrees, and desserts. For only $40 per person you can enjoy an entire five course meal. Several different types of each will be served so everyone’s palette and diet can be satisfied.
In addition to enjoying a wide variety of foods, guests will be able to see first hand the renovations made to the wonderfully unique Elks Lodge. There is a ballroom on the ground floor that can hold over 300 people. In addition, the Victorian Room upstairs, a richly decorated wood paneled room with a fireplace, leads out onto the veranda, a beautiful spot to relax and enjoy the outdoors.

Sponsors for the event include The Chronicle, The Broadcaster, The Reminder, I-98, WILI, The Last Green Valley, Gates GMC Nissan, and Columbia Ford, Lincoln, Mercury, Kia. “Without the generous contributions of our sponsors the event would not be as grand as we are expecting,” said Roger Adams, President and CEO of The Chamber. “We are expecting about 300 people who I am confident will leave pleasantly surprised about what our region has to offer for unique dining experiences. Last year we had nearly 275 people who could not believe the fine dining experiences offered within a half hour driving distance.”
