My Town, My Story: Windham
community guidelines
Share Your Story
My Town My Story (MTMS) invites people, 18 and older, living in Connecticut (CT), to share digital photos, videos, audio recordings, and documents with their local community and online at [insert link]. We sustain digital content contributed and owned by the historically under-documented community members of CT with the help of local libraries and community organizations.
What We Preserve
We preserve born-digital and digitized content contributed by individuals (18+) in CT, who wish to preserve, share, and amplify part of their history online, including:
-
Photos
-
Videos
-
Documents
-
Audio Recordings
We welcome content created anywhere in the world if it is owned and contributed by someone 18+ in CT. Whether content captures a birthday, vacation, community celebration, family visit, or even work and daily life, MTMS is interested in how people in CT have fostered their culture, community, and individual histories.
Grant of License
By submitting their material, users (content contributors) grant to the partnering institution(s) and the CTDA the non-exclusive right to reproduce, translate, and distribute the digital assets submitted to the MTMS program, including the descriptive information (metadata) and abstract, in any format or medium worldwide including, but not limited to, publication over the Internet.
Users agree that CTDA may translate digital assets to any medium, format, or language for security, backup, accessibility, and preservation. Users agree that CTDA may make multiple copies of the digital assets for security, backup, and preservation. Users understand they may request that their digital asset(s) be withdrawn from the CTDA, and, in such an event, the descriptive information (metadata) may be retained, and a copy of the digital asset(s) may be retained in a 'dark archive' where it is no longer publicly accessible.
User’s Copyright License
MTMS respects users’ copyright and ownership over their content. Each approved submission will generate a Creative Commons License “CC-BY-SA or CC-BY-NC?” that ensures the user legally owns the submitted content after its approval and publication. MTMS does not have a legal team to assist with copyright issues. If a third party uses a submitted photo or other content for profit without permission, the user will need to pursue legal action independently. MTMS partners can assist by providing resources and can take down the user's submission upon request. For more information or to report copyright infringement, contact your local MTMS partnering organization or visit [https://ctdigitalarchive.org/MTMS/copyright].
User Responsibilities
-
The user represents and warrants that they are 18 years of age or older, they own the material they contribute, and they have the necessary rights and permissions to share it.
-
The user is solely responsible for the material they submit and ensures they will not infringe upon the rights of any third party or violate any laws.
My Town My Story prohibits the submission of illegal, spam, or material promoting hate speech. MTMS partners will review each submission to ensure compliance with these guidelines. Our primary aim is to foster a safe and inclusive environment that celebrates the diverse history of Connecticut. While not all content will be published after review, reviewers’ decisions are final. Please contact your local MTMS partnering organization to learn more about why your review may have been rejected.
