Following a Public Hearing held on July 23, 2012, the Mansfield Town Council adopted a Right to Farm Ordinance and Municipal Tax Incentives for Farms. This ordinance shall become effective 21 days after a summary of the ordinance and a notice of adoption is published in a newspaper having a circulation in the Town of Mansfield.
With this action the following ordinances have been approved:
• An Ordinance Regarding the Right to Farm, which serves as a statement that the Town supports local farms and farm business.
• An Ordinance Regarding Farm Tax Abatements, which enables the Town to abate up to 50% of property taxes for qualifying farms.
• An Ordinance Providing an Additional Property Tax Exemption for Farm Machinery, which enables the Town to provide an additional exemption of up to $100,000 for farm machinery for qualifying farms.
• An Ordinance Providing a Property Tax Exemption for Farm Buildings, which enables the Town to provide an exemption to qualifying farms for buildings used exclusively for farming or housing of seasonal employees up to a value of $100,000.
All abatements and exemptions are available only to farms with a minimum of $15,000 in gross sales or expenses.
