TLGV has been named Grand Marshal of the 2013 Holiday Dazzle Light Parade in Putnam, CT. The wonderful nighttime event will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 1 (rain date December 8). For TLGV, it will be the kick-off of our 20th Anniversary as a National Heritage Corridor.
It’s a spectacular event with more than 120 brightly lit floats viewed by 20,000 spectators lining the streets. TLGV will be the first unit in the parade following the Color Guard and Master of Ceremonies Gary Osbrey from WINY Radio. The parade starts at the monument on the corner of Grove and Ring Streets and travels to the terminus of Kennedy Drive at Providence St.
There are two ways for TLGV members to get involved.
1. Join the Parade Committee, a short-lived but intense opportunity to design and build an exceptional float. Email Charlene@tlgv.org to offer your talents! The more the merrier!
2. Reserve a spot in the Green Flash, an assembly of 200 people to walk with the float. You must be able to walk 1.5 miles briskly and to periodically chant “The Last Green Valley” and “It’s Where You Live” when cued by the Green Flash Coordinators! We will provide a green safety vest for everyone to wear over their coats (dress warmly). The Green Flash members may also wear other forms of green or decorate themselves with green lights or glow sticks. Having 200 people walking in unison will add a dynamic element to the parade and also show the spectators how much we all love The Last Green Valley.
You can ask family and friends to join you but you must register soon. There is a limit of 200 people for the Green Flash! Email Charlene@tlgv.org to sign up or call Lyann at the TLGV office, 860-774-3300. Additional instructions will be emailed closer to the event – where and when to meet, parking advice, etc. Don’t miss being a part of the Green Flash!
