The Environmental Club at Eastern Connecticut State University organized a panel on November 17 featuring six professionals in the environmental earth science field, all Eastern graduates. This event allowed students who attended to ask the panel questions about finding and maintaining a career in earth science.
The six panelists, Jennifer Schneider, Nicole Vitello, Lindsey Belliveau, Sean Kellarson, Nick Denegre and Adam St. Denis, explained the multitude of opportunities available to students. Vitello and Belliveau are continuing to pursue their master’s degrees from Eastern and UConn respectively, while the four other alumni are working in the field.
With the exception of Schneider, who graduated in 2004, all of the panelists received their undergraduate degrees from Eastern in 2013 or 2014. Since the majority of panelists were under the age of 25, students were able to ask thoughtful questions without feeling intimidated. Panelists were asked about the difficulty of hunting for jobs after graduation, the likelihood of long-term employment at those jobs and the struggle of balancing busy personal lives with demanding careers.
