EASTCONN Hosts Spring Dance Showcase

Willimantic, CT—EASTCONN’s Capitol Theater Arts Academy (CTAA) will present its annual Spring Dance Showcase on Sat. and Sun., May 31, and June 1, 2014, at EASTCONN’s Capitol Theater, 896 Main St., Willimantic, featuring 70 young dancers from across northeastern Connecticut. The public is invited to attend.

CTAA’s Spring Dance Showcase will take place at 4 p.m. on Sat., May 31 and at 2 p.m. on Sun., June 1. General admission tickets are $10; tickets for students and seniors are $8. For tickets and information, contact Jessica Folta at 860-465-5636, ext. 1.

This year’s showcase theme is “Flights of Fancy,” which dancers, ages 4 to 18, will incorporate into ballet, jazz, modern, tap and hip-hop, with music from Peter Pan, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty and Swan Lake, among others. Dances will also be performed to the music of Journey, Katy Perry, Natalie Cole, Michael Buble and more.

Showcase dance pieces were choreographed by CTAA instructors Alana Mahdalik, Amy Chibeau, and Rachel L. Roccoberton. The Youth Dance Ensemble will also perform new works under the direction of Mahdalik.

CTAA students’ hometowns include Andover, Baltic, Brooklyn, Columbia, Coventry, East Windsor, Hampton, Hebron, Lebanon, Mansfield, Old Saybrook, Scotland, Willimantic, Willington and Windham.

CTAA serves northeastern Connecticut residents, ages 3 and up. Classes are taught by some of Connecticut’s finest arts professionals, who help students explore the arts through dance, theater, cartooning, creative writing and individual music lessons. Classes are offered in fall, spring and summer sessions at EASTCONN’s Art Deco-era Capitol Theater. Registration is now open for CTAA Summer Programs, including sessions in dance and musical theater.

CTAA is an arts education outreach program of EASTCONN, a public, non-profit agency that has been serving the education needs of northeastern Connecticut’s schools and communities since 1980. Learn more at  www.eastconn.org.

To learn more about CTAA programs or the summer program, contact CTAA Coordinator Rachel Roccoberton Griffin at 860-465-5636, ext. 1023, or at rgriffin@eastconn.org.
