Connecticut 2-1-1 Work’s to Help Those Impacted By Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Irma

Connecticut 2-1-1 handles calls from Hurricane Harvey victims and acts as the lead resource coordinator for out of state 2-1-1’s helping Hurricane Irma victims in Florida, Alabama, Georgia and South Carolina.

Rocky Hill, CT: In the wake of Hurricane Harvey and as Hurricane Irma continues its path through Florida and surrounding states, United Way of Connecticut / 2-1-1 is working to support victims of both hurricanes.

As part of a national network of 2-1-1’s, Connecticut 2-1-1 will begin to handle calls from people in Texas seeking help with hurricane recovery on Tuesday, September 12th. Information and ways to provide help to those in Texas can be found in Connecticut 2-1-1’s eLibrary paper.

Connecticut 2-1-1 has also assumed the role of lead resource coordinator for those who have been displaced or suffered a loss from Hurricane Irma. At the request of United Way Worldwide, Connecticut United Way 2-1-1 created a website for out of state 2-1-1’s who are answering calls from Hurricane Irma victims in Florida and surrounding states. This website will continue to be updated as more information becomes available from service providers in the impacted areas.

Peak hurricane season in Connecticut began in mid-August and runs through mid-October. The best way to stay safe during a weather emergency is by being prepared and organized. ‘CTPrepares’, a free emergency mobile app, provides Connecticut residents with information and alerts in emergency situations, and also gives preparedness tips in advance of an emergency. The app can be downloaded for free to smart phone and tablet devices from the Apple iTunes store and the Google Play store

What else can you do to prepare?

  • Download or request a free copy of the Connecticut Guide to Emergency Preparedness. (available in ten languages)
  • Sign up for the State of Connecticut Emergency Notification System .
  • Use the Guide to Emergency. Preparedness to assemble an Emergency Supply Kit and Family Emergency Plan.
  • Be aware of inclement weather forecasts and follow instructions provided by public safety officials.

Connecticut 2-1-1 is a gateway to services related to emergency/disaster response and recovery as well as a statewide resource for emergency-related information collection and dissemination. Call 2-1-1 or visit www.211ct.org for access to services and to stay informed during any extreme weather episode.

Connecticut 2-1-1 is a program of United Way of Connecticut. Our work is made possible through support from the State of Connecticut and Connecticut United Ways.
