On Saturday, January 11th, the Access Community Action Agency hosted a Healthcare Enrollment Fair in Vernon at the Rockville Learning Center. Access has been certified through Access Health CT to offer in-person assistance to uninsured residents in Tolland and Windham Counties who want to enroll in health care coverage under the Affordable Care Act (ACA). Congressman Joseph Courtney stopped by the enrollment fair to speak with Assisters and healthcare customers about his support for the ACA and the significance of this opportunity. Speaking with certified Assister Cindy Sounthonevat, a student from the University of Connecticut School of Pharmacy, Congressman Courtney congratulated her on her participation in a program that will be historically significant. Under the ACA, insurance companies can no longer deny coverage or charge higher premiums due to a pre-existing health condition. Women can no longer be charged higher premiums than men. Every enrolled person will be guaranteed a minimum set of health benefits.
While these are some of the benefits of the law, navigating insurance coverage options can be overwhelming. To help people understand the coverage options, organizations like Access have been designated as Navigators to oversee certified Assisters like Cindy. Access is holding enrollment fairs throughout Tolland and Windham County this month at the following locations:
January 20 2 pm – 7 pm TEEG, 15 Thatcher Rd., N. Grosvenordale
January 21 2 pm – 7 pm Access Agency, 1315 Main St., Willimantic
January 25 10 am – 2 pm Rockville Learning Center, 33 West Main Street, Rockville
January 27 2 pm – 7 pm TEEG, 15 Thatcher Rd., N. Grosvenordale
Trained and certified Assisters will be on hand at each enrollment fair to help with the enrollment process. Please call 860 450-7400 to make an appointment.
