Community School of the Arts Now Enrolling for Fall Music Lessons and Classes for all Ages

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

STORRS, CT, August 15, 2013 –The Community School of the Arts (CSA) at the University of Connecticut (UCONN) is now enrolling students for its fall program of non-credit classes in music and art for adults, teens, and children. Private lessons begin on August 26; fall classes begin the week of September 9 and 16, 2013.

Private instruction encourages music literacy, the growth of instrumental and vocal skills, and develops patience, dedication, perseverance, goal setting and time management. Lessons are offered on most classical instruments and meet once a week with an instructor for 30, 45 or 60 minutes.

New this fall, CSA is offering the Royal Conservatory Music Development Program which provides a recognized national standard of musical success through an effectively sequenced course of study from beginner to advanced levels. Students may assess their progress with others across the country, and instructors are supported with high-quality and innovative resources. The Music Development Program encompasses four main areas: Repertoire, Technique, Musicianship and Musical Literacy.

Also available at CSA is Suzuki Music study for Violin, Cello and Guitar for students as young as 4 years old. The Suzuki approach differs from traditional methods of teaching instrumental music because the student begins training at an early age, and parental involvement is required through attendance in individual and group lessons (twice a week) to assist the student with practice at home.

Chamber music and ensemble offerings for teens include a String Orchestra, for beginner and intermediate level violin, viola, cello and bass, the Chamber Music Ensemble, Guitar Ensemble, Saxophone Ensemble, Brass Ensemble, and the Richards Chamber Music Coaching Program which places pre-college string, woodwind and brass instrumentalists with Music Majors from the University of Connecticut and coached by UCONN and CSA Chamber Music faculty.

CSA also offers  Early Childhood Music classes, Group Class Piano for Children,  the Treblemakers children’s choral program, and Music Theory classes. Pottery and Visual Art classes are also offered.

Most Community School of the Arts programs are held at the UConn Depot campus in Storrs, CT. Parking is free and adjacent to the CSA campus. For additional information or to register, contact CSA at 860-486-1073, csa@uconn.edu or visit www.csa.uconn.edu.
