On Saturday, October 6, at 10 A.M. “mourners,” curiosity seekers and near-do-wells are invited to participate in an authentic re-enactment of Reverend Calhoun’s 1880 funeral. Participants should meet at the Second Congregational Church, 1746 Boston Turnpike (Rte. 44) in Coventry. The service will include excerpts from the actual eulogy read in 1880. The funeral procession of modern-day vehicles will then be led to the Center Cemetery by a horse-drawn hearse where there will be commentary by costumed re-enactors at various gravesites. This event is sponsored by the Second Congregational Church, Center Cemetery Assoc. and the Coventry Historical Society.
