Charter Oak Federal Credit Union has awarded $14,000 in scholarships to seven area students who will be attending college this fall.
Charter Oak awards the scholarships annually as part of its Community Giving Program. The scholarship winners, who each receive $2,000, are chosen based on a variety of factors, including their level of community involvement, extracurricular activities and overall academic achievements. The scholarships were awarded during Charter Oak’s 73rd Annual Meeting on Thursday, April 19.
Those honored were Qing Ge of Uncasville, who attends Montville High School; Olivia Jean Burdick of Waterford, a University of Connecticut student; Fallon Wilson and Paige Palmieri of Niantic, who both attend East Lyme High; and Fabjola Qosja of Jewett City, a Griswold High School student.
Charter Oak also awarded two annual scholarships in memory of two longtime employees.
The LuAnn Dugas Memorial Scholarship was presented to Arianna Athenian of Waterford, who attends Waterford High School.
The Louise Jackson Community Outreach Scholarship was presented to Cody J. DeGray of Brooklyn, a student at Woodstock Academy. The Jackson outreach scholarship is funded entirely by Charter Oak employees, who raise money by paying a small fee to participate each Friday in the credit union’s casual-dress campaign.
