ANDOVER, CONN., January 9, 2018—In 2015, Channel 3 Kids Camp opened a year-round, on-site Child Care facility called Open Arms. The center accepts children 15 months through age 5. Open Arms reached full capacity in 2017 and the demand for attendance has increased above what the center can currently accommodate. An expansion to allow for more children to attend is currently in progress with anticipated completion in mid-February. The expanded facility will allow the camp to welcome an additional 8 children under the age of 3 and 7 additional children over 3.
“There is a huge need for child care in this area, especially for the children under the age of 3.” stated Denise Hornbecker, Chief Executive Officer of Channel 3 Kids Camp. “We are very proud that we can welcome these children to this very special place.” The location makes Open Arms a unique setting for the children as the building is situated within the camp’s beautiful, wooded 150 acres. The children go outside (weather permitting) at least 2 times a day. They play on several playgrounds and enjoy exploring the many hiking trails and natural scenes throughout the camp property.
Open Arms, a place where education and play go hand in hand, aims to integrate environmental appreciation into a traditional preschool curriculum. As with all Channel 3 Kids Camp programs, Open Arms is priced to be affordable without sacrificing quality and is fully accessible and inclusive. The staff have years of experience working with children of varying needs and provide a safe and supportive environment, nurturing each child individually. Channel 3 Kids Camp is extremely proud of the uniqueness of this program. A parent recently stated, “We love how involved the kids are in a variety of activities such as cooking and baking, painting and arts and crafts as well as the educational aspects. My daughter loves the many different outdoor play areas.”
Open Arms Child Care Center is located just off Route 6 in Andover and Coventry Connecticut. The center operates year-round, including full time throughout the summer. Hours run from 7:30 to 5:30. Enrollment is currently open to new children with an anticipated completion of the expansion in mid-February.
