On April 25, 2012, over 500 students from 9 area high schools will make their way to Norwich Free Academy in Norwich to attend a Real Solutions Financial Reality Fair sponsored by Connecticut Credit Unions. Featuring simulated spending situations that occur regularly in everyday life (such as purchasing a car, paying for groceries or renting an apartment); the event is designed to teach teens the basics and importance of budgeting.
Local business volunteers are being sought to man the various Fair booths, including Food, Cell Phones, Savings, Transportation, Entertainment and more. All booths are designed to tempt students into living beyond their means while having to make tough spending choices. Businesses already signed on to volunteer include Bob’s Discount Furniture, the CT Tigers, Metrocast and Norwich-based Byrnes Insurance Agency.
Training will be provided the morning of the fair and volunteers can request booths that pertain to their professions. To learn more about volunteer opportunities, or to sign up, please contact Joshua Orlando of Charter Oak Federal Credit Union at (860) 446-3231.
