Access to Help the Community Get Job-Ready

Access Community Action Agency’s Climb the Ladder to a Better Future, One Step at a Time Program can help residents of Windham and Tolland counties find and retain employment. The program has now consolidated the original four group classes into one Orientation so that more people will be able to join and get job-ready.  The three hour session will include: (1) Feeling good about yourself; (2) How to fill out an application: (3) Answers to why you are not being hired; (4) Interviewing to secure that job.  We will also have a Human Resource Director to explain what employers need in a job applicant.  Orientations will be in Danielson on Thursdays and Willimantic on Wednesdays.  Part of Access Community Action Agency’s Strategic Commitments to the community is “Building Capacity for Income and Asset Accumulation” and the Climb the Ladder to a Better Future, One Step at a Time Program will help participants become economically stable by gaining valuable tools that can help empower all participants to get — and stay — employed!  The session will be held on a revolving basis available June – August 2013.

In the program, participants will work with an Employment Program Manager to receive job placement assistance and one-on-one job counseling.  Immediate help is available for the recently unemployed!  On-going case management is also available to assist with employment training, education, credit repair, and more to help participants reach their goals and help their family become financially independent.  The tools participants will gain that can help empower them to get — and stay — employed are: How to Build Self-Assurance, Make and Meet Realistic Goals, Ace the Interview, Produce a Winning Resume, and Develop Positive Work-place Interaction Skills.

Sessions will be held every third Wednesday and Thursday, 9:00 – 12:00 p.m. from June – August at Access Community Action Agency, 1315 Main Street, Willimantic, and at The Cornerstone Baptist Church basement in Danielson located on 227 Broad Street.  Funding for this program made possible, in part, by a grant from Staples to help with payments for funding licenses for employment, books for educational purposes, fees, etc.  Participants will work with the employment program manager for this funding.  Access has also partnered with students from Killingly High School’s Alternative Education program.  If you or anyone you know would like to participate, please contact: Donna @ 860-450-7400 x 7498 or 860-412-1600; donna.tomasso@accessagency.org.  Call to register today! Check out our website for a full schedule of upcoming classes at: www.accessagency.org.
