Access Introduces Personal Budget Coaching Program

Access Community Action Agency is partnering with the United Way of Central and Northeastern Connecticut and the Women’s Business Development Council to provide a Volunteer Budget Coaching Program in the Windham area.  This is a free 6-month program of 12 sessions between matched volunteers and participants.

The program is designed to help participants gain insight and a better understanding of their personal finances. The purpose of the program is to provide participants with knowledge and support to make healthy choices in the management of their money. While individuals at various socio-economic levels can benefit from improving their budgeting skills, it is particularly critical for lower-income families, who face challenges in managing their income and expenses.

Each participant is matched with a trained volunteer coach who will help them identify exactly how much income they take home and how much they spend each month. They will work with their individual coach to develop a realistic plan to meet personal financial goals, such as paying off credit card balances, saving for a house, or financing a college education.

The individualized participant – volunteer relationship allows for a confidential and open dialogue so that each participant understands his or her personal financial situation and makes choices for his or her circumstances. Careful consideration is given to matching participants and volunteers through a comprehensive vetting and selection process of volunteer coaches.

If you are interested in participating in the Volunteer Budget Coaching Program or would like more information, please contact Karen Adamson at 860-450-7455 or karen.adamson@accessagency.org.
