May 21st begins the 3rd Thursday Street Fest season once again, and we hope that you are looking forward to it as much as we are. We’ve been working very hard overthe winter, and expect that things will go as smoothly as they have in the past.
Main Street will be closed on the 3rd Thursday of each month, from May-September, from Walnut Street to Jillson Square. We may expand the Fest towards High Street, on a month-by-month basis, as needed, and will let you know if we do that. As in previous years, the street will close at 5:00, and reopen at 10:00. We very much encourage you to participate in the Fests, whether you are a retail merchant or you provide a service. (Ironically, we find that sometimes businesses from out of town participate by handing out business cards, while the same type of service is on Main St, but closed.) We are committed to keeping an area in front of any businesses that choose to remain open clear of vendors, so that pedestrians will be enticed into your storefront. The sidewalk in front of you is available for your use, for free, if you simply let us know that you plan to use it.
Please let us know if you will be open by signing up on our website at www.willimanticstreetfest.com. The normal vendor fee will be waived. If you register:
we keep your storefront clear, and the sidewalk open for you to use
your business is advertised in the 3rd Thursday handouts
your business appears on our website .
One way to avoid any problems and help us to help you, is for you to volunteer to act as “Block Captain” between 5-6. You would help to direct street vendors to the correct areas. If you can help in May, that’s most critical. Willimantic Renaissance produces the 3rd Thursday Street Festivals to bring foot traffic into Willimantic’s Historic Downtown. It is part of our mission to help Main Street Willimantic businesses. Please contact us with any questions or concerns at info@WillimanticStreetFest.com or 860.450.0918.
Speaking of concerns, we have received many complaints from businesses, vendors and Fest attendees regarding the volume of the music from DJ’s. We acknowledge the need to provide music for everyone in our community, and obviously a lot of younger people enjoy dancing and listening to recorded music. Since we cannot compete with, nor silence, the DJ at J. S. Stylz Barber Shop, we will not have a stage near Walnut Street this year. We will have some performances, between 6 – 7:30 only, but no bands. We appreciate everyone else’s cooperation in not playing music to compete with the Fests. Please contact the entertainment committee if you’d like to schedule anything involving music, whether on or off of our stages: Entertainers@WillimanticStreetFest.com

Please take a moment to let us know of your plans, and consider whether you can help the Fest with any of these concerns:
Are you participating as a merchant this year with your business open?
Please register at www.willimanticstreetfest.com/vend_reg.htm
Is your toilet open to the public?
May we list it in the program?
May a vendor fill a container with water from you, if needed?
Can you provide someone to help with fest set up (from 5-6 pm)?
CL&P and the Town of Windham will not allow us to draw electricity from the light poles for bands, vendors, or to supplement the lighting, so we must ask you for help with some electricity.
May we run an extension cord to your building for a vendor / food vendor /band?
